This has been a busy few days for the RS department. Lower Sixth A level students attended a conference in Oxford led by world renowned scholar Dr Peter Vardy, former Vice Principal of Heythrop college of the University of London. The day conference was entitled ‘All you need is Love’ and focused on the Ethics of love, sex and relationships. KEHS girls made an excellent contribution to the open microphone debate ‘This house believes that everyone has a right to a child’.
In addition, Dr June Jones of the Medical School at the University of Birmingham led an excellent lunchtime session on ‘Biomedical Ethics and Personhood’. Dr Jones explored the many responses to the question of when life begins – a splendid session for those thinking of reading both Theology, Philosophy or indeed Medicine!
Finally, well done to Araadhna Sinha and Karina Joshi who represented the school on the ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ programme, flying to Poland to see the remains of Auschwitz-Birkenau at first hand. Araadhna and Karina will be sharing their experiences in a forthcoming assembly.
